At long last! The release of Moe! Staiano's Moe!kestra!'s second CD 'An Inescapable Siren Within Earshot Distance Therein And Other Whereabouts: Orchestra Conductions' AND the CD release show, will finally happen! The CD will be a split release through Rastascan Records of US and Amanita Records of France. This is the first Moe!kestra! CD that features released recordings of Staiano's composed scored pieces, recorded in 1998 and 2003 respectively. The 1998 recording of Piece No.5 was recorded at a festival at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and features Ches Smith (Good for Cows), David Slusser, Nils Frykdahl (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), Kris Force (Amber Asylum) and 29 other musicians. The Piece No.7 recording features, sadly, the final recording of bassist Matthew Sperry (who has worked with Tom Waits, Anthony Braxton, Gino Robiar, etc.). The CD is dedicated to Mr. Sperry.

If anyone remembers that we mentioned that there were going to be two Moe!kesta! releases. Yes, well, the second Moe!kestra! CD, which will be a CD of conducted improvisations entitled 'Two Rooms of Uranium Within 83 Markers: the Second Volume of Conducted Improvisations'. The release date is yet uncertain (artwork has to be made which is the last thing, besides pressing the album, that needs to be done). Released through Edgetone Records, it will feature muscians George Cremaschi, Devin Hoff (Nels Cline Singers), Carla Kilhstedt (2 Foot Yard, Tin Hat Trio), Ches Smith, Myles Boisen, Allen Whitman (ex-Mermen), John Shiurba and many others. A date aimed for late summer is slated and, of course, we'll let you know on the NEWS when it does.

Finally, Moe!kestra! will play Portland on the 30th of September with a date in Seattle in the works (with help from Joshua Kohl from Degenerate Art Ensemble and Trey Donovan). Moe! would like to play in Vancouver and Olympia near the said above date and if anyone can help out and organize musicians in those cites, please contact Moe! Staiano at moestaiano1@yahoo.com.

UPDATED: 4-April-2006

There are some new photos from the last KaMoTo Trio that were taken by Jon Raskin (of ROVA). You can check them out here: http://www.jonraskin.com/images/JRQuartet1/index.html

The recording session of Moe! Staiano with the Book of Knots fell through, unfortunately, due to time restraints on Tony Maimone's part. BOK still hopes to use Moe! on their 3rd release and Moe! will either just go back to NY to record the sessions or record some things in Oakland.

Speaking of recordings, Moe!kestra! recorded PIECE No.8 in Myles Boisen's Headless Budda Lab in Oakland with William Winant, Weasel Walter, Garth Powell, Bill Horvitz, George Cremaschi, Cheryl E. Leonard, etc. Mastering will take place in early Summer sometime.

And, as far as releases are concerned, the second Moe!kestra! album with his two conducted scored pieces is planned for release (I know, we keep pushing the date further and further away; these things somehow happen beyond our control) in July. The CD will be a split release by Rastascan Records/Amanita Records.

Finally, Moe! Staiano will be playing with NURSE WITH WOUND as a guest member at the Great American Music Hall shows in SF on June 16th and 17th with irr. app. exe. member Matt Waldron. More details to come. Yes, Moe! is very excited.

Photos from the Moe!kestra! show at the LoBot Gallery form October 16th can be seen at a great website by someone named Lars who takes all the photos. They can be seen at: http://www.pbase.com/pistolswing/moe_kestra

Check out the rest of the website. Lotsa great bands of punk, noise and experimental.

Moe! Staiano will be recording on the next Book of Knots album (the side project band that features Mattias Bossi and Carla Kihlstedt of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Tony Maimone of Pere Ubu) in April. This will be the BOK's third release. Moe! will be contributing percussion (naturally).

And two Moe!kestra! releases will be released by April. One is the second release of conducted improvisations (tentaively titled "Two Rooms of Uranium"), released on Edgetone Records. The other release will be of two conducted compositions (which can be heard on the SOUNDS page. That one will be released on Rastascan/Amanita and features Piece No.5 for large orchestra and Piece No.7 for Strings, Percussion, 6 E-stringed Guitars, u-bolts, wine glasses and sirens. A CD release show date is in the works.

Moe! Staiano has finished production on his third solo album with production mastering faithful Dan Rathbun. It will be titled "The Absolute Tradition of No Traditions". The title comes from a review of the last SGM CD and Moe! thought it'd be a perfect title for his next release. A label to release the CD will be in the works and Moe! hopes to promote the album as a opener for a Sleepytime Gorilla Museum tour sometime in 2006.

In other projects, Moe! has finished recording a improvisation project with guitarist Fred Frith, electronic musician Tom Dimuzio, shakuhatchi player Kiku Day and young koto demon (she's a nice demon) Kanoko Nishi. It was recorded by Myles Boisen and production/mastering/editing will soon take place.

Finally, Moe!kestra! has two CD albums in the works. Label searching for Piece No.7: An Inescapable Siren Within Earshot of Hearing Distance Therein and Other Whereabouts (coupled together with Piece No.5) is still under way. A second CD of conducted improvisations will be released on Edgetone Records, tentatively titled "Two Rooms". It will feature two show recordings with the main recording of Moe! conducting the Moe!kestra! in two separete rooms at the same time. The release is scheduled for the end of the year and will be mastered by Dan Rathbun.
